How to find a shelter

Kevin McCoy

If you get a radio call requesting information on how to find a shelter then you can help them get the information.

#1 Get their location

# 2 How to find an open shelter (Works for gov, Red Cross, and registered NGOs like churches etc. that have opened shelters.

a) Call 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767) and ask. This is On Star and they are excellent.

b) Find it on the web:?? https://www.redcross.org/get-help/disaster-relief-and-recovery-services/find-an-open-shelter.html

c) The Red Cross Emergency app has this as a function text "GETEMERGENCY" to 90999 to download

Incidentally - the first aid app has downloaded content - so you can still use the Red Cross First Aid app even if the cell towers and internet are down. But you have to download before you need it

Text "GETFIRST" to 90999 to download (Free) and be prepared for everything from bee stings to strokes.

Ditto the Emergency App - what to do before during and after 36 different emergencies...

Thank you for being our good partner in Disaster Response since 1935!
