Date

Mentor Fest 2020 is hereby Cancelled

Mentor Fest 2020 has been Canceled
Normally held the last weekend of April
was rescheduled for October 17 of this year.

As the ARRL North Texas Section Manager
I feel it would be irresponsible for me to continue to endorse a large gathering of people at an indoor event.

At present time there is only One Forum scheduled for the event which is just one month away.
This in itself demonstrates to myself and other members of the Section Management Team
that discussed this in a tele conference this past week that cancelling this event is the best course of action.

Everyone in the Teleconference agreed cancelling is the right thing to do.

Our Next Mentor Fest can be bigger and better than ever
the new date is April 24, 2021

I am very hopeful that 2021 brings us a much better year!

Steve, Yes, there are many folks we have in the NTX section that are very interesting speakers.

Thank You Steve for setting this up so that folks can give feedback on what they would like to see in future Mentorfests. I think Mentorfest was great! Everyone did a spectacular job, but there may be something that was missed and not thought of that could make things better and having feedback and ideas flowing in I think is a good thing.

So again, Thank You Steve and everyone for their hard work and dedication!

John,  I agree
And adding the Names of the Mentors may attract more folks
As I know I like to listen to some folks regardless of what the presentation is

Thanks for the suggestion !

Re: Mentor Fest 2019 was a great success !!!

THANK YOU to everyone who worked so hard to bring Mentorfest back and to the Mentors a big THANK YOU! It was a big success and I am looking forward to next years Mentorfest. Mentorfest is something that the NTX section can be proud of. It's a great acomplishment and a lot of hard work goes into it by Jay W5GM and Bill AC5BC as well as Mrs Johnny. I know the folks that attend Mentorfest appreciate it. I certainly do! I am keeping my eyes and ears open for more mentors. Terry and Kerri Paddack were at Cowtown hamfest and I attended their presentation and after I asked them if they would be interested in presenting at Mentorfest. Ken KD2KW passed their info along to Jay.  The idea is that if we see someone at a local hamfest presenting then they might be willing to come to Mentorfest as well. I am always looking mentors.

Adding names of presenters/ mentors to schedule

John Hamilton KD5INM

On the schedule that was posted on ARRLNTX website there were times and topics of presentation but presentors names were not published. I had written a quick last minute FB message to Jason of Ham Radio 2.0 about coming to Mentorfest to do a video about it, not knowing he was a presenter/mentor there. I know that he is always on the lookout as many ham radio oriented youtubers are for content and I thought perhaps this would be a good way to get publicity for Mentorfest as well. It was the night before mentorfest and if he didn't have anything going on for Saturday it might be good content since he has traveled around to hamfests and mentorfest is local. Had I known he was giving a presentation and would be there then I would not have contacted him.

Mentors up stairs and down stairs ? (elevator is available)

Mentor Fest 2020

what are the thoughts on having Mentors (Forums) some up stairs
and some down stairs where we were this year and in years past ???

The down side is only one elevator
The Up side maybe less noise to the adjacent  presenters

Thoughts and other ideas on this topic ?

If you have a new suggestion please add it with a New Topic Title
see left side Bar    New Topic

Thanks !

Mentor Fest 2019 was a great success !!!

This year was a success !

Much thanks to Jay W5GM,  Bill Caldwell AC5BC, and Ms. Johnny

These were the core group worker bee's that I can think of right now
I know many others helped,  turnout was better than last year from what Jay and Bill told me
Thanks to EVERYONE that came especially the Mentors !!!

Please post your suggestions and Ideas for next year
Through use of creating a New Topic
for the overall Title of the suggestion
then in the body of the message the further explanation

This will help us prepare for next year to make it even bigger and better
Speaking of bigger well that is a new topic which I will start

Thanks again !

Mentorfest 2019 Announcement!!!
Copied from the Overall Section News Area by Steve

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
From SM Jay Urish:

After saying publicly that Mentorfest 2019 would not happen because I was leaving office and was loathe to start something that I might not finish, The demand was still high enough to go ahead and with the support of my ASM's and both candidates for my office, we are going to give it a shot.

The Hella Shrine is reserved for us April 27, 2019. We will use the same time slot layout we had last year.
